The M&A markets remain extremely strong as 1Q17 SaaS M&A activity surpassed 200 transactions during the quarter, another record high. SEG estimates total SaaS M&A activity will approach 900 transactions by the end of 2017 and comprise nearly 50% of all software industry transactions during the year. This is a rather astounding statement considering there were only 100 SaaS M&A transactions in all of 2010. Furthermore, private equity continues to have an impressive impact on the SaaS landscape and buoy deal volume. During 1Q17, private equity backed strategic buyers were responsible for the largest percentage of deals.
